A mind of their own...

Something occurred to me late at night during post-editing some of my recent work from Maui. When I first embarked on this venture I was really excited that photos could be edited en-masse' and that each one could have the same changes applied and I would be finished with an entire day's shoot in a matter of minutes.

That turned out not to be the case....

I tried the batch road... Some photos liked it, others cried out to me that they wanted to be different.

This Banyan tree is a particularly compelling example. At first glance this is a very unique and interesting tree with its vast network (Anyone remember Banyan Vines?) of graceful branches that reached out to the world from every conceivable angle... Likewise it demanded to be treated differently and not like all the rest. Even the final product as it stands now has been tweaked even further to soften the outer branches a little bit.

And so it goes with every photo that makes the cut in my workflow. Each has it's own personality... each wants to have a certain look and no matter how much I argue with them, bribe or cajole them, it's going to be the photo's way... not my way.

Sometimes I am successful in convincing the photo that it "...really does look better without all that vignetting!"...the photo may even reluctantly agree.. sometimes we have to sleep on it... but in most cases the photo wins the argument.

With end results like my recent Maui trip, I am more than happy to oblige.
